It took me months
To cut the branches of the plant that had taken root in me
The plant was rotting
And so was I, with it
I tried to water it
Trying to make it look alive
And failing miserably
I tried to sing songs to it
Someone had told me that music brings out the best in everything that breathes
But that plant had withered
There was no life in it to make it alive again
I remembered the pale crimson flowers it bore
But now it stood there
Lifeless
I tried to give it parts of me
My happiness, my joys, my love
But it refused to grow
One starry night
As I was gazing at the reflections of moonlight
I gathered all my strength
And pulled the plant out
It was all dark and black and rotted
But a green seedling was sitting on its dried leaves
Smiling at me
It was the lush green color
Representing life
I took that seedling and planted it
In the place of the plant before it
Today, that seedling has grown
It has fresh green leaves
Every part of it, alive
It bears bright yellowish orange flowers now
And I realize the happiness and love that I had given to the previous plant
Was being repayed to me
The bright flowers made me smile
Filled my lungs with fragrance
Made my skin more alive
My mind more calm
My heart more human
I knew at that moment
That the love I gave
Came back to me
With interest
Bearing all the life
All the strength I needed
It flowered
And filled me with what I had lost
The pain and sorrow now withered away
And gave two more seedlings
And I wonder which colors they'd give out in the next spring
After flowering and flowering and flowering
To cut the branches of the plant that had taken root in me
The plant was rotting
And so was I, with it
I tried to water it
Trying to make it look alive
And failing miserably
I tried to sing songs to it
